October is Eczema Awareness Month

eczema awareness monthWe’ve recently had eczema awareness week and now we have eczema awareness month which gives us much more time to raise awareness for this dreadful skin complaint that is not contagious and not curable.

All through the month of October the National Eczema Association is working hard to raise awareness about Eczema with various activities and publicity. You too can help, let us show that we care!

Spreading the Word

The aim for eczema awareness month is to spread the word as far and wide as possible so that one day it might be possible to find a cure.

What is Eczema Anyway?

Well, I’m glad you asked…  Eczema is an inflammation of the skin which is extremely itchy and uncomfortable. The word eczema actually is one of those ancient Greek words which means “to boil over” which exactly is how your skin feels when you suffer with eczema.

The skin has a red, itchy rash and gets worse if scratched. There are varying degrees of eczema from Acute to Infected – where some get pus filled blisters that weep and some that just get raised lumps or thickened very dry skin.

As we’ve said before eczema is NOT contagious, it can be that you were just unlucky that your parents had eczema and so it’s likely that you will. Some people seem to get for no reason at all and others are triggered by irritants, or many other reasons.

How You Can Help During Eczema Awareness Month

The National Eczema Awareness has a long list of suggestions on how you can help to raise awareness for eczema…

You can increase awareness by creating discussions at school or even holding school assemblies. Or by contacting your local TV and radio and sharing your stories.

Maybe hold some fundraisers, such as family fun days, car washing or bike rides.

What is the Best Eczema Treatment

There are many different types of eczema treatment out there and no skin is the same, everyone’s skin does react differently to different treatments.  Some don’t work at all, some seem to work for a few months.

However at Syrinx Za Natural Skincare we have had some extremely good results with our clinical testing where 80% of eczema sufferers reported improvements in their skin.  Well, we don’t want to blow our own trumpet but we are very pleased with our results and just glad that we can help people by treating their eczema and so making their lives a little better.

So, lets get out there this month and spread the word about Eczema and Eczema Awareness Month.

Please start now by pressing the buttons below !

Dog’s Itchy Skin #itchydogs

Dog's itchy skinIs your dog’s itchy skin driving you crazy because he has dry, flaking skin, with maybe lumps and bumps, scabs and spots, and you just feel so guilty?

Let’s face it, dog do get itchy and itchy dogs are a huge problem for dogs and a big concern for the owner, because there are over 500 different things that can cause a dog’s itchy skin issue, otherwise known as canine skin disorder.

With so many different causes it’s very difficult to find out what is causing that itch.

Treatment for Dog’s Itchy Skin

Syrinx Za might have found a way around that,  dog owners have said that our Deep Therapy Cleansing Bar have calmed the itch on their dog, which does make a lot of sense as it is a 100% natural handmade therapy bar, that contains no additives and is used for treatment on human skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and cracked or sensitive skin.

Dogs can get the same skin conditions as us humans, but they also have added offenders such as fleas, mites, ticks, and parasites and dog fur.  Even stress can affect our dog’s skin.

Gentle, Natural Soap

Usually what happens is that people try to use human shampoo on dogs but this shampoo is too harsh for a dog. Even frequent bathing can cause dry skin.  They need something soft and gentle (without chemical or fragranced additives) which will moisturise their skin.

Ingredients

Other ingredients in the soap that should help are sapropel, the rare lake sediment to hydrate and draw out impurities from the skin, olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, turmeric and beeswax all which have abilities to lock in moisture, heal with antiseptic and provide a rich lather.

Pet owners have told us of dogs that live outside that get terribly dry skin, which are soothed.  Another dog owner told us of her dog that has allergies, who bites and gnaws at his paws has calmed a lot since they started using the soap.

Helping Your Itchy Dog

It is also a benefit to regularly brush the dog to keep him clean as this will also moisturise his skin.

Keeping the dog hydrated is essential, plenty of water and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Obviously it’s the same as with humans but more so that all dogs are different and what helps one of our canine friends might not help another but we think that it’s worth a try to soothe your dog’s itchy skin.   One bar of soap will last a very long time when you only need to bathe him around once a month, try it and see.

Razor Burn Treatment

How to get soft legsShaving is obviously very popular for most of the population; Men’s faces or women’s legs or a number of other places are shaved to produce smooth, soft skin but it can often lead to unattractive red, itchy razor bumps we know as Razor Burn or shaving rash.

This usually occurs when the hair follicles are infected with bacteria which can cause inflammation of the skin or just the wrong technique is used and so painful red bumps appear.

Preventing Razor Burn

We know that red, sore, bumpy skin isn’t exactly the look you were going for, so here are some steps you can take to prevent irritation and reduce the already red, inflamed skin.

Shaving Technique

You’ve probably been shaving for years; and think that you don’t need someone to tell you how to shave but most people do not realise that preparation is key.

First make sure that your razor is clean and sharp, otherwise this will irritate the skin causing ingrown hair and razor rash. Replace razors often.

Preparing the skin is so important as dry skin, oily skin, or dead skin cells can block pores and cause a rash.

Hydrating Skin Before Shaving

Splash your face with warm water to begin with. Then cleanse your skin with a non-chemical soap such as the Deep Cleansing Therapy Bar which works wonders for preparing your skin for a shave.  The warm water will soften your hairs and help open the pores so that the rich lather of the Therapy bar with its antiseptic, detoxifying and purifying qualities can thoroughly cleanse the skin and lock in the moisture that you need.

After you have rinsed you can then create some more lather to actually shave with, apply this thick later to the skin using circular motions to ensure coverage.

When you are shaving, ensure you are not pressing to hard, you should only need light gentle strokes and if you need to try to keep the skin taught.  Another tip is to make sure that you rinse the blade often. Some people find that not going “against the grain” prevents razor rash too – you might not get such a close shave though but it will be worth it.

Rinse your skin thoroughly to ensure you have washed off any lather or hairs that might have been left behind, gently pat dry and apply the Syrinx Za Skin Revitaliser to reduce redness, irritation and to keep the skin hydrated to prevent razor burn.

Scalp Dermatitis

what is dandruffScalp Dermatitis or Seborrheic dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin which causes an oily rash with scales or yellow flakes and it can be painful and particularly embarrassing for the sufferer.

Seborrheic dermatitis not only affects the scalp, it can develop on the face and the centre of the chest.

Although sufferers may feel alone in their suffering about 3-5% of people are affected.

What Causes Scalp Dermatitis?

The same as most skin complains it’s unknown what causes Seborrheic Dermatitis but it is thought that a yeast that lives on the skin could be the culprit.

Although Seborrheic Dermatitis can affect anyone of any age it is common in people with certain neurological diseases or people with an immune deficiency which means that the immune system has a large part to play in this.

Unlike some skin complains such as Eczema, which can sometimes be caused by diet, foods do not seem to cause Seborrheic dermatitis to flare up. Although some foods have been connected to inflammation in general.  Flare-ups maybe caused by stress, tiredness, weather, and certain medicines.

Symptoms of Scalp Dermatitis

The scalp is unbearably itchy, inflamed, red and sore and oily flakes will appear that are white or yellow. This scaling can also appear on the face or the chest.  There can also be a rash that might weep.  The non-inflamed version of seborrhoeic dermatitis is actually the well-known dandruff or the lesser known name pityriasis capitis which is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp

Treating Scalp Dermatitis

As always its best to stay away from any triggers that you know about, here are some tips that might help.

If you have a high level of chlorine in your water, it can help to fit a chlorine filter, as chlorine is known to aggravate our skin.

Switch from harsh chemical based soaps, detergents and shampoos to a natural alternative, such as the Deep Cleansing Therapy Bar for washing.

Avoid like the plague standard dandruff shampoos, they are filled with chemicals and fragrances that might be a quick fix but will irritate your skin even more causing worse problems.

Scalp Dermatitis Treatment Routine

Syrinx Za scalp and hair treatments deep cleanse the affected skin using mainly natural ingredients to deeply moisturise the scalp. The mixture of these ingredients including Sapropel are clinically proven to reduce inflammation, redness, itching and to reduce or eradicate flakes.

There products are:-

Pre-wash treatments =  Scalp reviver

How to use – Massage very gently into the scalp (do not be tempted to scratch) and comb through to the ends of the hair – leave on for 20 to 30 mins.

Shampoo = Scalp and Hair Cleanser

Use just as your normal shampoo to cleanse the scalp

Conditioner = Scalp and Hair Enricher

Use as a normal conditioner but this one is by far no means normal it has been developed to normalise scalp conditions for eczema.

Within a few treatments you should start to notice a difference with your scalp dermatitis.

What are Hives?

admin-ajaxYou might be asking “What are hives?” because you have some unexplainable lumps and bumps or rashes that are, burning, itching or stinging. Does this maybe happen periodically and lasts maybe one or two days but can stay for up to six weeks?

You wouldn’t be alone; around 1 in 6 people suffer with hives at some point in their lives. Hives can happen due to reaction to allergens, stress, heat, insect bites, foods, or sometimes for reasons unknown.

What are Hives?

Hives, also known as urticarial or sometimes nettle rash is an itchy rash on the skin which is caused when the body releases a protein called histamine, this is to protect our body as it thinks it is under attack.  The skin leaks a fluid which causes itchiness and swelling.

How Often are Hive Outbreaks?

Some people might just get hives once, where as it seems most others can suffer from regular out breaks that can come and go for years.

How Severe Can Hive Be?

Again, it varies on severity – it can be just a few raised areas, (small or large spots) or it can cover the whole body.  Some people have chronic hives that can persist for years.  It could be that it will start with just a few lumps but if you do nothing to stop the itch and you scratch the rash can spread and the lumps join creating a nasty, red mass of itchy red skin.

Treating Hives

With Hives, if you suffer regularly, you will know the feeling of them starting.   The best thing at this point is to immediately wash the affected skin – I use the Deep Cleanser Therapy Bar (of course) and take an antihistamine tablet. This is usually enough to stop me scratching and causing a big red mess on my skin, and the skin will calm down in a few hours.

This is because the Deep Cleaning Therapy bar is a natural cold compressed soap with no harmful additives or chemicals, which has antiseptic and detoxifying abilities; it deeply cleanses the skin returning it to its natural state.

If it’s too late for this and the rash has already taken over then I suggest the following treatment regime.

Treatment regime for Hives

Before you go to bed – using the Deep Cleansing Therapy Bar, create a really thick lather; smooth this lather all over the affected area, rubbing it very gently into the rash.  Let it dry – and leave it overnight.

If you have any rashes on the face, eyelids or eyebrows (as I do sometimes) try hard not to rub after  you have gone to bed as the soap may sting if you get it in your eyes, it’s not harmful though and it will be fine in a few minutes, it’s just annoying.

In the morning, have a warm shower or bath or just rinse of the soap with lukewarm water and your skin should mostly be clear, depending on severity if not then the repeat the above until it is.

So there you have the answer to What are Hives, I hope that this helps you as much as it helps me.

What Causes Oily Skin?

Best facial scrubWe all wonder what causes oily skin, especially when we have combination skin; it doesn’t seem possible or right that this should happen.

The reason is certain over-active sebaceous glands which produce too much oil or sebum on the skin causing a shiny face, spots and acne. There is good-news; people with oily skin don’t get so many wrinkles.

Keeping your skin healthy was the hardest task when treating oily skin, but not now.

What Causes Oily Skin?

So what causes these sebaceous glands to be over productive?  The fact is most of the time it’s just hereditary, if your parents had oily skin or acne then it’s likely that you will too.

Hormones are also big factor in oily skin, that’s why teenagers are prone to suffer with acne, and women get spots at certain times of the month or when pregnant or menopausal.

Environmental factors can affect the skin as we know, and with oily skin its heat or humidity that stimulates these glands.

While you might think that using a facial scrub or fiercely scrubbing your skin will take away the oil, this isn’t true. Scrubbing your skin will strip the skin of oil which in turn will force the body to over compensate to replace that oil.

Diet for Oily Skin

Whilst what you eat can help oily skin it doesn’t cause it.  However eating a healthy diet full of antioxidants that are in many fruits and vegetables, plus drinking enough water can help to clear your complexion.

How to Treat Oily Skin

First you need to replace your normal harsh soaps and cleansers with a natural, gentle soap, such as the Deep Cleanser Therapy Bar.

The Deep Cleanser therapy bar is very effective on oily skin because it draws out the impurities from the skin like a facial scrub without using chemicals or brushes to harshly scrub your face.

Just use the bar to cleanse and wash your skin as you would normally and then let the lather soak in and dry overnight, rinse off in the morning.

It won’t be long before you don’t care what causes oily skin because your skin will be healthy and the oil levels balanced.

How to Treat Eczema

how to treat eczemaIf you are here then you probably suffer from eczema or know someone that does and want to know how to treat eczema.

Well, you have come to the right place!

I know, you’ve heard it all before, how a certain wonderful eczema treatment is just the right thing to treat your eczema, and it gets tedious trying new treatments. However just keep reading for a while you might be surprised.

Eczema treatments

The trouble with eczema is that although this debilitating skin condition has the same symptoms, such as red, itchy inflamed skin, some treatments actually affect people differently, that is because your skin is unique. We realise this at Syrinx Za.

Clinical Trials for Eczema Treatments

We are lucky at Syrinx ZA that our eczema treatment has been through such stringent clinical trials (never tested on animals) that we know over 80% of eczema sufferers have experienced improvements to their skin. We found in the trials that all of Syrinx Za products work by replacing lost moisture to the skin and then forming a barrier leaving skin feeling smooth and relieved.  The eczema treatments relieve symptoms of dry, itchy, sensitive skin, which is a big part of the battle to treat eczema.

One of the ingredients Sapropel, which we named Zander does part of its job by protecting the skin from heavy metals and boosting the immune system to enable the skin to start repairing itself again.

Research and Development

Syrinx ZA are committed to continual research and using feedback from 2000 customer we have discovered that, eczema sufferers get noticeably smoother skin within 14 days with 9 out of 10 volunteers experiencing an improvement.

No, it’s not a miracle cure, and anyone that tells you that they have a cure for eczema is wrong, there is no cure, but this is how to treat eczema and keep it away or at least comfortable.

 How to treat eczema

We suggest the following Eczema treatment regime

Washing with the deep therapy bar morning and night rub the lather into the affected areas morning and night.  To sooth and deep cleanse the skin, removing all those nasty toxins. Some people find it best to leave the lather on overnight and rinse in the morning.

After bathing, apply the Natural Emollient Eczema Cream morning and night if you have rinsed off the lather to reduce inflammation, redness and itchiness.

For most people, this eczema treatment will be enough to comfort and soothe your skin, so much so that you will never need anything else.  However others might benefit from adding other Syrinx Za products to your skincare routine and find your own method on how to treat eczema.

Dry Skin on Elbows

Dry Skin on ElbowsIf you sit at a desk in front of a computer for any length of time you may find yourself suffering from dark, rough, dry skin on elbows. We find that office workers or students often complain of this problem.

This skin can become hard, dry, cracked and inflamed if not taken care of, can be very sore especially when you bend your arms. All that is required is a natural skincare routine that includes your elbows.

Causes for Dry Skin on Elbows

There are many other reasons that you can get hard dry skin on the elbows but if it is the result of working at a desk, you will usually find that it occurs on your left elbow, as your right hand is busy with the mouse your left elbow is usually resting on the desk. It’s the constant friction on the skin that is causing the hard skin, which just worsens over time – the best thing to do is to avoid resting on your elbows but we know, its a habit.

Other reasons can of course the weather, using harsh soaps, dry air, or more serious skin conditions such eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis which can be exacerbated by the previous reasons but in all cases treatable.

Do not pick or scrub dry skin on elbows

If your elbows are hard, dry and cracked, it’s very tempting to pick at the skin, or to pull off that small piece that does not seem attached. It is attached and it will hurt.  Do not pick or pull at the skin this as this can cause infection and will definitely make it much more painful.  Also scrubbing the skin, using a scrubbing brush or any harsh chemicals is not necessary; this can just cause inflammation and pain and not help at all.

Yes, you do want to remove the dead cells on the elbows but you want to do this gently and naturally with a fragrance, and chemical free moisturising soap.

Treatment for Dry Skin on Elbows

As always its best to keep your skin away from whatever is causing the problem but it’s a very difficult if you have a habit of resting on your elbow or to find out what could be causing the hard, dry skin.  An easy place to start is to stay away from chemical based products and to use more natural soaps and creams.

The Syrinx Za Deep Cleansing Therapy Bar is not only a substitute for chemical based soaps it is highly moisturising, has antiseptic qualities and detoxifying abilities. The therapy bar acts as an a natural exfoliant as it penetrates the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.

Treatment Regime for softer skin

In the evening – wash with the therapy bar, making a thick lather, rub this lather into your elbows- leave to dry and leave overnight.

In the morning – Wash off the lather, wash again with the soap rubbing it into the affected areas but this time rinse and apply the Syrinx Za Derma Protector.

The Derma Protector provides 24 hour hydration for your skin, and restores dry cracked skin.

Do this everyday for 7-10 days and you will start to notice a difference, but keep using the soap and the cream to keep dry skin on elbows at bay.

Benefits of Argan Oil

Benefits of Argan OilAs one of our most favorite and key ingredients, we’d like to discuss the benefits of argan oil, one of the rarest oils around.

Argon Oil is relatively new to the western world but the women of Morocco have used it for years to keep youthful, healthy looking skin. Argan oil is from the kernels of the argan tree from Morocco where they are harvested by hand and then crushed or ground and pressed. When used for food they are also roasted.

Argan Oil for Skin

Right away we might realise that two benefits of Argan oil are that it hydrates and moisturises your skin and due to the properties of Argan Oil. Argan contains vitamin E which is well known for being good for your skin as it has high levels of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. When mixed with other ingredients in our products we find that inflammation is reduced, moisture in the skin is retained, red patches of skin are soothed, skin is less itchy and cells are prevented from aging, which are some of the reasons that argan oil is fantastic for skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

Anti-Aging

We don’t often make claims to our products being anti-aging but it is a fact that Argan Oil not only contains anti-oxidants and fatty acids which can regress the signs of aging but also ferulic acid. Ferulic acid is the most abundant organic compound in Argan oil, which not only protects the skin from the sun it is used in anti-aging products. Ferulic acid is also found in the seeds of apples, that doesn’t mean you need to eat them!

Some other benefits of Argan oil

As argan oil contains all of these great compounds when mixed with our special ingredient Sapropel a rare lake sediment it can reduce spots, pimples and blemishes caused by acne.
Due to Argan oils fatty acids it can be used to prevent stretch marks as it increases the elasticity of the skin.

Argan oil will have benefits on all skin types, dry, oily or combination especially when mixed with our other special ingredients.

Which Syrinx Za products contain Argon Oil?

You will find Argan oil in two of our products and they are our Skin revitaliser and Natural Emollient, along with many other natural ingredients that work alongside each other to provide a natural skincare solution to help return skin to a healthy glowing state. These products are effective for many skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, dry skin, and acne.

Dry Hands in Winter

dry hands in winterIt’s a common problem to suffer with dry hands in winter,  exposure to the harsh winter conditions, can take away the moisture and strip the skin of the natural oils that protect our hands. This can make your hands so dry that they can crack, peel and even bleed in some cases.

Its not only the cold air that can dry out our hands, its also our central heating and our constant washing of hands to protect ourselves from winter colds and flu.

What do to about Dry Hands in Winter?

Soaps

Normal soaps and detergents actually dry out our skin, so excessive washing using these soaps is very bad for our skin.

What is needed is a natural hand soap that contains no additives, chemicals or fragrances that will harm your skin, which will in turn moisturise the skin – such as the Deep Cleanser Therapy Bar. Using this natural handmade soap and not the chemical based soaps will be a great start to providing protection as a barrier for your dry hands in winter.

Start now as a prevention to dry hands in winter.  Some people, including myself (I don’t use anything else anymore) even find that using the therapy bar is all we need to keep soft hands in colder months but others need more than that.

Hand Cream

When our hands are dry the first thing we usually reach for is the Hand Cream or Moisturiser but what most people do not realise is that certain types of hand creams do not seal moisture into the skin, all they do is add moisture.

We all know that lovely feeling when you first rub in the silky deliciously perfumed hand cream and then around 30 minutes later, yes they smell lovely but they feel exactly the same as they did before; Dry. That’s exactly what I mean; these types of hand creams are not retaining the water in our hands, so it’s doing no good at all.

Emollient

The best hand cream you can ever use is an emollient, emollients seal in water which is essential for dry skin especially during the winter months. The Syrinx Za Skin Revitaliser is a deep hydrating emollient which will moisturise and hydrate dry skin and even restore damaged skin.  It is easily absorbed in to the skin and provides a 24 hour protections and boosts the skins immune system allowing it again to protect your skin naturally.

Its time to go natural

It’s very important to watch out for harmful chemicals, fragrances and parabens that we are applying to our skin as these irritate and even cause the dry skin that we are struggling to get rid of.

As with all of our products our Deep Cleanser Therapy Bar and Skin Revitaliser are completely natural, chemical free, paraben free and full of nutrients and vitamins. The key ingredients are our breakthrough ingredient sapropel, argan oil, almond oil, coconut oil and cere alba, all of which will help banish dry hands in winter.

For more information on our ingredients please see our product ingredient page.
