Acne and Diet

Best Soap to Use for Treating AcneSo many of us grew up being told by our parents and teachers that gorging on sweets, fizzy drinks, chocolate or just about anything deliciously bad for us causes acne, right? Well, wrong. There is actually no proven link between Acne and Diet, it’s just a misconception that has been passed down for many years – probably to put children off junk food!

However, while foods do not necessarily cause acne, there are foods that can fight off acne symptoms and keep your skin as clear and healthy as possible.

What foods can help clear up acne?

The following foods can are thought to be particularly effecting at alleviating acne symptoms and improving the skin’s overall health.

Avocados: Avocados are particularly rich in vitamins C and E. Vitamin C is effective in reducing skin inflammation while Vitamin E is able to increase the skin’s vitality.

Artichoke: Artichokes are also full of Vitamin C as well as a variety of antioxidants, meaning harmful toxins and impurities of the skin are cleared out, reducing the likelihood of problems such as acne.

Brown Rice : Brown rice provides us with Vitamin B which is known to act as a stress fighter when digested. As acne is usually caused by hormones and high stress levels, brown rice can help prevent outbreaks.

Fatty Fish : Fish is very important when considering links between Acne and Diet as it contains omega-3 and omega-6. These two fatty acids can effectively reduce swelling within the skin and declog blocked pores.

Fennel: Fennel is the ultimate natural skin cleanser food – it can improve digestion, reduce inflammation and detox the skin, all in all preventing acne outbreaks.

Garlic: Garlic is also praised for it inflammation-reducing abilities. It contains Allicin, a natural chemical that is able to kill off harmful, acne-causing bacteria within the skin.

Nuts: Mineral deficiencies have been held responsible as a common cause of acne which is where nuts step in; they contain many essential minerals such as selenium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium that can nourish the skin and reduce its vulnerability to conditions such as acne.

The common misconception about natural oils is that they are actually a cause of acne but this is entirely false. Acne is all down to age, hormones or trapped skins cells and dirt that over time clog the pores. In fact, as bizarre as it may sound, using the correct oils can gently tackle and reduce acne very effectively.
